Michael Vick will be offensive coordinator in the Alliance of American Football

Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick, who rose to stardom as a member of the Atlanta Falcons, will be an offensive coordinator for the Atlanta team in the Alliance of American Football. The Alliance of American Football, a professional football league that is scheduled to debut next February, announced Wednesday morning that the Atlanta franchise will play at Georgia State Stadium. "I've always had a passion for teaching, a passion to lead," Vick said at a press conference in Atlanta. "When Brad [Childress] called me to offer me this opportunity, I seriously felt it was something I could not pass up." The former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, Childress will assume this same role for the Atlanta team, with Vick as his offensive coordinator.

It has been a remarkable return for Vick, who spent 18 months in prison for his role in a dogfighting operation. After being released, he played seven more seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, ending his days as a player in 2015. Vick filed for bankruptcy in 2008, saying he owed 17.6 million dollars to creditors. Vick paid back 17.4 million of the total. Without faith that Vick would be able to do it, the Falcons sold the credit for the 6.5 million dollars they had in favor of a bank, at a discounted price.Place your bets with the best bet freak odds on the market.

The bad relationship between Vick and the Falcons has been left behind. In June, the team honored Vick, who was elected to three Pro Bowls during his six seasons (2001-06) in Atlanta, where he threw 71 touchdowns and 11,505 passing yards. He also became the first quarterback in NFL history to run for 1,000 yards in a season. Childress, 61, met Vick last summer when he served an internship with the Kansas City Chiefs before migrating to Fox Sports as an analyst. Childress, who was assistant head coach to Andy Reid, left the Chiefs when the season ended in January. He then joined former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy with his transition to becoming the new head coach of the Chicago Bears.

The Alliance of American Football was announced last month by Charlie Ebersol, director of the documentary "30 for 30" about the XFL and the son of former NBC Sports chief executive Dick Ebersol. ESPN analyst and former NFL general manager Bill Polian is a co-founder of the league. Atlanta is the second of eight cities to be announced. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the first team would play in Orlando and be led by Steve Spurrier. Rules for the league include absence of kickoffs, mandatory two-point conversions after touchdowns, limited reps and zero pauses for television. Two games of the 10-game season will air on CBS, with the rest streaming via CBS Sports Network and the league application. Other former NFL players involved in the direction of the league include Justin Tuck, Jared Allen, Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward.
